The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), which is at war with the Palestinian armed faction Hamas, announced on the 22nd (local time) that it had mistakenly bombed an Egyptian position near the southern border of the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli military said in a statement that day, “A military tank accidentally shot at an Egyptian guard post near the Kerem Shalom area.”

Meanwhile, Al-Qassam Brigades, a Hamas military organization, repelled armed Israeli troops through an ambush east of the Khan Younis area in southern Gaza, Egyptian state-run daily Al-Ahram reported on this day.
Al-Qassam Brigades claimed, “Our mujahideen (holy Islamic warriors) confronted the infiltrating troops and defeated the enemy, destroying two bulldozers and a tank.”
